Volumes

The StoryGraph alternative

A StoryGraph alternative for your reading and your shelves

The StoryGraph charts how you read and suggests what to read next. Volumes tracks your reading too, with progress, rereads and Up Next, and adds everything around it: the books on your shelves and where they are, who has borrowed them, and the quotes you want to keep.

Switching

Moving from The StoryGraph to Volumes

Volumes reads The StoryGraph's export as it is, including books you didn't finish.

1 · Out of The StoryGraph

  1. In The StoryGraph, open Manage Account.
  2. Under Manage Your Data, choose Export StoryGraph Library.
  3. Generate the export and download the CSV file.

The full guide, step by step

2 · Into Volumes

  1. Open Settings in Volumes
Under the library title on iPhone, the gear on iPad, and ⌘, on a Mac.
  2. Import from Another App
Tap Choose a File and pick the export. Or share the file to Volumes from Files or Mail.
  3. Add to My Library
Check the count, then add. Volumes tells you what came in and anything it couldn't use.

What to expect

Comes across

  • Title, authors and ISBN
  • Read, currently reading, and did not finish (as set aside)
  • Your most recent start and finish dates
  • The date you added each book
  • Your tags, as lists

Stays behind

  • Moods, pace and the other review tags
  • Star ratings and reviews
  • Earlier reads of a book you've reread
  • Narrators and translators come in listed as authors

Books already in your library are skipped, so importing twice is safe. Want to see it first? Try a sample library.

Which is for you

An honest choice

Choose The StoryGraph if…

  • You want stats on your reading habits: moods, pace, genres, goals and streaks.
  • You want recommendations based on mood and pace.
  • You use Android or the web.

Choose Volumes if…

  • You want your reading and the books you own in the same place, scanned in a shelf at a time.
  • You want statistics about your library itself: how many books on your shelves are still unread, how it has grown, and who borrows most.
  • You want to keep quotes from a photographed page, and see one in a Home Screen widget.
  • You lend books and want to know who has them.
  • You want a native Mac app and no account.

Privacy and price

What it costs you

The StoryGraph

An account is needed. Its App Store privacy label lists data linked to you, and no tracking across apps.

Free, with StoryGraph Plus at $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for custom charts and more stats (US App Store prices).

Volumes

No account and no ads. Your library is kept in your own iCloud, and Volumes doesn’t track you across other apps or websites. The privacy policy sets out the little that leaves your device.

Free on the App Store, with no subscription.

The StoryGraph

Two kinds of statistics

The StoryGraph charts your reading: moods, pace, genres and page counts, with goals and streaks, and custom charts and comparisons in StoryGraph Plus.

Volumes charts your library: a wall of the books you finished each year, how many books on your shelves are still unread, books added per year and month, the decades your books were first published in, and who has borrowed the most. All of it free, and with no streaks or goals.

Questions

Good to know

Can I move my StoryGraph library to Volumes?

Yes. Export your library from Manage Account in The StoryGraph, then in Volumes open Settings, tap Import from Another App and choose the file.

Do moods and pace come across?

No. Volumes brings across your books, whether you read, are reading or didn't finish each one, your most recent dates, and your tags as lists. Moods, pace, ratings and reviews stay in The StoryGraph.

Is Volumes a reading tracker?

Yes, and a home library too. It tracks your page and progress, remembers every read including rereads, and lets you set a book aside without counting it as finished.

Can I get my books out of Volumes later?

A full library export is coming soon. Until then you can share any single book or quote, and your library lives in your own iCloud rather than on our servers.

What do I need to run Volumes?

An iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later, or a Mac with macOS 26 or later. Volumes is free on the App Store.
