Volumes

Book lending tracker

A book lending tracker: lend freely, get them back

Everyone who owns books has lent one and forgotten to whom. Volumes remembers for you: who has each book, and since when, on every device you own.

Books currently lent out in Volumes, each marked with who has it

How it works

Note it as it leaves

Open the book, tap Lend…, and say who it's going to. Volumes records the day it left and shows every book that's out in one place.

  • See every book that's currently lent, with who has it and since when.
  • Tap Mark as Returned when it comes back.
  • Ask Siri “Who has my books in Volumes”, or tell it “A book came back in Volumes”.

Hand the book over, digitally too

Tap Hand It Over and send the book by Messages, AirDrop or anything else. If your friend uses Volumes, it lands on their shelves as your copy, marked Borrowed, and they can tap Give It Back when they're done. On an iPhone without Volumes, it opens as an App Clip, with no app to install first. And if they end up buying their own, I Have My Own Now keeps their quotes and reading history.

A link nobody else can read

The book's details travel in the part of the link that browsers never send to a server, so neither we nor our web host can see what you lent or to whom.

See who borrows most

Statistics show who has borrowed the most from you over the years, and what's out of the house right now.

Questions

Good to know

Does the person borrowing my book need the app?

No. You can record a loan with just a name. If you hand the book over with a link, it opens on their iPhone even without Volumes installed; if they do have Volumes, it appears on their shelves as borrowed from you.

Can I keep quotes from a book I borrowed?

Yes. The quotes you saved from a borrowed book stay with you after you give it back.

Is the name of the person I lend to sent anywhere?

No. Loans are stored in your own iCloud. Volumes never collects the names of people you lend to or borrow from.
