Fix missing covers and book details

Book databases get things wrong, especially for older and smaller books. Volumes lets you put them right with your camera: the cover from your own copy, the blurb from its back.

How it works

Photograph the cover

A book with no artwork shows Add Cover. The camera finds the cover, takes it when you hold still and straightens it. Adjust the corners or rotate it, and it becomes the cover everywhere. Remove My Photo puts the old one back. On a Mac, choose an image file.

Photograph the back cover

Tap Add Description and photograph the back of the book. The description is highlighted for you; tap or drag to change it, and correct the text before saving. Or Type It Instead.

The right edition

Change Edition switches a book to the edition you actually own, with its own cover and details.

Edit anything

Edit Details holds the authors, publisher, published date, page count, description, series and the dates you started and finished. A book that can't be found online can be saved by hand.

Questions

Good to know

What does a book with no cover look like?

Volumes draws it a cloth binding with its title, until you photograph your own copy. A “loose ends” filter shows every book still without a cover.

Does my cover photo sync?

Yes. It becomes the cover on every device, through your own iCloud.
